The Challenge

When it rains, stormwater doesn’t just flow — it carries pollutants, sediments, and nutrients that threaten downstream ecosystems and infrastructure. Traditional stormwater systems passively wait for runoff, missing valuable opportunities to treat and improve water quality between storms. In coastal, low lying areas that challenge is exaggerated by flat terrain, high ground water and tropical disturbances, often preventing treatment by gravity alone.

smartPOND Pump and Treat changes that.

Engineered for Performance, Designed for Simplicity

With Pump and Treat, you’re not just managing runoff, you’re transforming it into a cleaner, more sustainable resource.
SmartPOND Pump and Treat is a fully integrated stormwater management solution that combines smartPOND intelligent pumping technology with Bold & Gold® filtration media from Ferguson Waterworks. Together, they create a dynamic system that not only moves water when it matters most, but also provides the lowest cost of ownership based on pounds of nutrients removed.

Treatment After a Storm

Gravity isn’t always on your side. High ground water, limited elevation and other contributing factors can prevent efficient use of common Best Management Practices. This is where smartPOND pump and treat with a programmed batch reactor, coupled with Bold & Gold Biosorption Activated Media comes into play. With the Batch Reactor contributing 55% Phosphorous and 45% Nitrogen and the Bold & Gold CTS Medias 95% Phosphorous and 80% Nitrogen removal, it’s the solution built for every site.

Treatment Between Storms

Treating stormwater within 72-hours of the storm can often result in large pumps and oversized filters. Treating continuously between the storms and recirculating the water back into the pond results in smaller infrastructure, driving down cost and creating the most cost-effective system for consistently removing pounds of phosphorus and nitrogen.

Smart. Connected. Ready.

smartPOND Pump Integration

A pre-packaged, plug-and-play smartPOND pump system continuously monitors water elevations and conditions using advanced sensors and controls.

  • Can program into a batch reactor for treatment or extended infiltration
  • Water level sensors detect changes in pond water surface elevations
  • Programmable logic triggers automatic activation post-storm or based on environmental factors.
  • Remote telemetry for live performance tracking is optional.

Bold & Gold® Treatment

Stormwater is pumped to the Bold & Gold® water quality treatment unit, where proprietary filtration media remove nutrients, sediments, hydrocarbons, and metals.

  • Proven nutrient and TSS reduction.
  • Long-lasting, low-maintenance media.
  • Modular scalability for any site or flow rate.

Flexible Operation Modes

  • Post-Storm Treatment: Treat stored water quickly after an event from wet or dry pond.
  • Inter-Storm Circulation: Recirculate and polish water between storms for ongoing oxygenation and nutrient control resulting in smaller pumps and filters, reduced maintenance and lowest cost of ownership.
  • Custom Solutions: The smartPOND platform is designed to solve your individual challenges. No problem is to complex.

Power Options

  • Grid Power: Where grid power is available, smartPOND can be connected to 120V, 208V or 240V.
  • Solar Power: Flexible design allows for fully integrated solar powered options with smartPOND
  • Hybrid: Have the best of both utilizing either grid or solar with larger battery bank backups for when the power goes out.

SUPPORT MATERIALS

What is smartPOND and how does it work?

smartPOND is an adaptive, automated stormwater management system designed to optimize detention, infiltration, and drainage. It uses sensors, real-time data monitoring, and remote control capabilities to improve water quality and reduce maintenance while ensuring compliance with evolving regulations.

Does smartPOND help with regulatory compliance?

Yes, smartPOND is designed to meet evolving stormwater regulations, including batch detention requirements per the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Edwards Aquifer Protection Plan (EAPP). It also adapts to new pollutant standards, making compliance easier.

What hardware options are available for smartPOND?

smartPOND offers three automated stormwater control solutions:

Automated Valves: 6–12” butterfly valves with full connectivity and sensor spools.
Automated Weirs: 24” x 24” rotary weirs for surface release and water elevation control.
Automated Gates: 36” x 16” slide gates for bottom release and flow regulation.

What makes smartPOND a cost-effective solution?

smartPOND reduces detention pond sizes, cutting land development costs. It eliminates the need for frequent media replacements and minimizes manual inspections, lowering long-term operational expenses. Its automation ensures optimized water management, improving efficiency while reducing labor costs.

How does smartPOND compare to traditional stormwater control systems?

Unlike traditional fixed stormwater controls, smartPOND is fully programmable and can adjust to changing regulations for pollutants like phosphorus, nitrogen, and metals. It also offers automation, remote monitoring, and real-time maintenance alerts, reducing manual inspections and operational costs.

What stormwater applications is smartPOND best suited for?

smartPOND is ideal for batch detention for water quality, real-time optimization for smaller detention ponds, and predictive weather management. It can be used in retention, detention, and rainwater harvesting systems.

How is smartPOND installed and maintained?

smartPOND features a plug-and-play design, making installation simple and requiring no complex wiring. It has modular components that can be easily replaced, and routine inspections can be monitored remotely via an onboard camera. Automated alerts notify users about upcoming maintenance needs.

What are the key benefits of using smartPOND?

smartPOND provides superior water quality control with a 91% Total Suspended Solids (TSS) removal rate, reduces detention volume by up to 50%, minimizes maintenance, and allows for real-time optimization. It also helps developers save space and costs by decreasing the required detention pond size.

How does smartPOND improve water quality?

smartPOND achieves a 91% TSS removal rate, a 32% Total Nitrogen (TN) removal rate, and a 57% Total Phosphorus (TP) removal rate. By automating detention and infiltration, it enhances pollutant removal without

Can smartPOND operate remotely?

Yes, smartPOND offers real-time remote monitoring and control. Users can track water levels, gate positions, temperatures, and maintenance records through an online dashboard. Alerts are sent via email or smartphone to notify operators of system updates.
