WHAT IS GEPS?
GEPS, or the Groundwater Energy-Passive System, is an innovative solution for stormwater management that uses the natural properties of soil to enhance water infiltration and storage. Acting like an artificial root system, GEPS units—ranging from 2 to 40 feet in length—are strategically installed below the surface to create an effective water distribution network. These impeller-shaped units are designed to cause minimal disruption to the site during installation, enabling water to move through and into various soil layers. By improving soil permeability and preventing hydrostatic buildup, GEPS offers a long-lasting, eco-friendly solution that helps soils absorb water up to ten times faster than traditional methods, without any energy consumption or ongoing maintenance requirements.
HOW DOES GEPS WORK?
GEPS works by taking advantage of natural soil movements. When placed into drilled holes, the GEPS units form a network beneath the topsoil, where soil expansion and contraction activate the system, creating a passive pumping action that moves water efficiently. Each unit punctures soil layers, breaking hydrostatic pressure and enabling water to disperse more easily, which reduces water buildup between layers and promotes faster infiltration. Once surface water enters the GEPS system, it is naturally distributed through soil capillary action, allowing water to reach even deeper soil levels. This process not only prepares the soil for future rain events but also provides an energy-free, low-impact method to manage and utilize stormwater effectively.
